How to Make Garlic Butter Pasta

Step 1: Cook the Pasta

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.

  2. Add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente.

  3. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta and set aside.

Step 2: Make the Garlic Butter Sauce

  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.

  2. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using). Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.

Step 3: Combine the Pasta and Sauce

  1. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to coat in the garlic butter sauce.

  2. If using heavy cream, pour it in and stir to combine.

  3. Add the reserved pasta water, a little at a time, to create a silky sauce.

  4. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and creamy.

Step 4: Season and Serve

  1. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

  2. Garnish with chopped parsley and extra Parmesan cheese.

  3. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Don’t Overcook the Garlic: Burnt garlic can taste bitter, so sauté it just until fragrant.

  • Reserve Pasta Water: The starchy water helps create a creamy sauce.
